Begründung

The Faculty of Psychology of the University of Basel founded in 1460 hereby confers all the dignity, rights and privileges of an honorary doctorate in psychology upon Prof. Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky from the United States of America

in acknowledgment of her extensive research into the significance of happiness and the experience of happiness for people across the entire life span;

in acknowledgment of her groundbreaking empirical and theoretical work showing
that the experience of happiness is associated with numerous rewards in people’s everyday lives and that individual happiness thus contributes to a healthier and stronger society;

in acknowledgment of her unwavering and successful efforts to communicate psychological findings to the public and to demonstrate how the findings can be implemented in everyday life.

CV

Sonja Lyubomirsky (geb. 1966 in Russland) schloss ihr Psychologie-Studium 1989 mit dem BA an der Harvard University ab und promovierte 1994 in Social Psychology an der Stanford University. Anschliessend war sie Assistant Professor, Associate Professor und seit 2005 Professor an der University of California, Riverside; dort wurde sie 2019 zum Distinguished Professor ernannt. Sie hat zahlreiche Preise und Ehrungen erhalten.
