The Letter of Freedoms, 28 May 1460
On 28 May 1460, the city and City Council documented the rights and privileges of Basel’s university members in a Freiheitsbrief, or Letter of Freedoms. StaBS, St.Urk. 1676
Concordata/Compacta, 6 September 1460
On 6 September 1460, the university’s rector, George of Andlau, issued a public declaration on behalf of the university as a counterpart to the Letter of Freedoms of 28 May. This declaration is preserved in an official Latin document known as the Compacta or Concordata. In it, the university members affirmed that they would responsibly handle the legal and economic privileges granted to them. StaBS, St. Urk. 1682
