University history since 1460

    The University of Basel was founded as Switzerland's first university in 1460. Here you will find a wide range of information and materials on its history from its beginnings to the twenty-first century.

    unigeschichte.unibas.ch — the online project on the history of the University of Basel

    In 2010, to mark the university's 550th anniversary, the Department of History, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Susanna Burghartz and Prof. Dr. Georg Kreis and on behalf of the Rectorate, developed an extensive website exploring the university's history.

    The website has been online since 2010, with most of its information current as of that year. Select content is periodically updated and expanded to address specific issues that may arise.
