New Biosystems Science building on the Life Science Campus

ETH’s Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering makes a move to the Life Science Campus

A new building at the corner of Klingelbergstrasse and Schanzenstrasse, conceived by Nickl & Partner Architects with a project costs of 200 million Swiss francs, has been constructed for the ETH Department of Biosystems, temporarily housed at the Rosental site (Mattenstrasse 26) since 2007. While the cornerstone for the new building was laid in 2018, the project encountered some delays: the handover of the building, initially planned for the end of 2021, is now slated for fall 2023. Of course, the aim is to foster close collaboration with the University of Basel. ETH will be utilizing animal facilities within the university’s buildings, while the university will benefit from ETH’s cleanroom facilities in return. Currently, the Department of Biosystems boasts around 200 master’s students and 180 doctoral candidates.
